NEW DELHI: Jasprit Bumrah has become the quickest Indian fast bowler to 50 wickets in Test cricket. The India pacer achieved the landmark when he removed Darren Bravo on Day 2 of the ongoing 1st Test against West Indies in Antigua on Friday.

Jasprit Bumrah has reached the milestone faster than Venkatesh Prasad and Mohammed Shami who had taken 13 matches each to 50 Test wickets. Bumrah is also the 3 joint fastest Indian bowler along with Narendra Hirwani and Harbhajan Singh to reach the milestone figure

R Ashwin holds the record for the least number of matches to50 Test wickets (9) while former India coach Anil Kumble stands 2nd on the listafter having reached his 1st 50 Test wickets in just 10 matches.

 However, JaspritBumrah is the fastest Indian bowlers (overall) to reach 50 wickets, if numberof balls are taken into account. Bumrah got his 50th Test wicket in his 2465thball while Ashwin who had held the record previously needed 2597 balls.JaspritBumrah trapped seasoned West Indies batsman Darren Bravo in front right afterthe Tea break on Day 2 to put India in control.

Bumrah's rise to the top in Test cricket has beenphenomenal. When Bumrah made his Test debut in South Africa in 2018, doubts remainedas to wether the right-arm pacer, who was considered a white-ball speciallist,would find success in Tests.

However, Bumrah quashed all the doubts with 48 wickets injust 9 Tests in his first year in the longest format of the game. Bumrahstarred in India's first-ever Test series win in Australia earlier this year asthe pacer picked up 21 wickets to top the bowling charts in the 4-match series.
